Sixty civilians were killed and 55 wounded in NATO airstrikes last year in Libya, said a UN report prepared by a commission that probed human rights abuses and war crimes in the North African state.
The international NATO-led military operation in Libya began on March 19, 2011, two days after the approval of a UN resolution on "targeted measures" to protect civilians from ongoing clashes between forces loyal to former leader Muammar Gaddafi and rebels seeking his overthrow.
The report said that NATO "conducted a highly precise campaign with a demonstrable determination to avoid civilian casualties,” but the commission noted incidents of civilian deaths and damage to civilian infrastructure as a result of NATO airstrikes.
"Amongst the 20 NATO airstrikes investigated, the Commission documented five airstrikes where a total of 60 civilians were killed and 55 injured. Read full article

(AFP) BRUSSELS — Hundreds of peace activists on Sunday tried in vain to break into the headquarters of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation in Brussels, with 483 of them arrested by police.
The demonstration, organised by the Belgian association Action for Peace two months before a NATO summit in Chicago, was called to protest the alliance's intervention in Afghanistan and Libya, and nuclear arming.
"No demonstrator was able to enter NATO headquarters," spokesman for Brussels police, Christian De Coninck, told AFP. "We detained 483 people for questioning and all of them should be free in the evening."
De Coninck said no one was hurt and no damage was reported. Read full article

These days, when I watch state-run Afghan TV, which is funded by American money, I am surprised by how openly Afghan experts criticize US military tactics in Afghanistan. This is new.

 Kapisa district police chief Abdul Hamid Erkin told AFP: "Two nights ago foreign special forces carried out a raid on a house in Geyawa village in Nejrab district.” The next morning their plane carried out an airstrike on a house in the village as a result of which seven children and one adult were martyred.”

He said commanders of French troops who operate in the area "claimed that the target was a group of Taliban facilitators, but we checked the area and there were no Taliban.” In fact the people in the area have very strong anti-Taliban feelings. We filmed the victims, who were children, and showed it to the French commanders,” district police chief told AFP.

Presidential statement confirmed Thursday that NATO airstrike killed eight children in Kapisa province northeast of the capital Kabul. The children were aged between  seven and 15, he said, while the adult was a mentally-handicapped 20-year-old. The tragic incident comes about two weeks after Four French soldiers were killed by a loyalist Afghan officer in the same province (Kapisa) last month, pressuring French mission in Afghanistan. The house of Lt. Khweldi, member of the Libyan Revolution, and his son Mr. Khalid Khweldi, chairman of the International Organization for Peace, Care and Relief (IOPCR), subjected to the aggression carried out by NATO aircrafts which enterLibyaunder the pretext of civilian’s protection.

This aggressive attack has killed the whole family of IOPCR chairman; his wife Ms. Safaa Ahmed Mahmoud, his innocent daughter Khaleda Khaled Khuwaildi (6 years) , his innocent son Khuwaildi Khaled Khuwaildi (4 years), and 9 others from women, children, relatives and neighbors.

House of IOPCR’s president has been bombed with 8 missiles weighing 8000 kg, which has resulted to a complete destruction for a household and near houses, cut apart and burned the bodies of the victims. Home trees, birds and animals also didn’t survive the attack.

This attack clearly targeted Mr. Khalid Khweldi, the chairman of the International Organization for Peace, Care and Relief, who is providing humanitarian aid in wide areas affected by the NATO bombing, and who has visited many hospitals and provided aid and humanitarian assistance to all affected since the beginning of the recent events inLibya.

Rescue teams and ambulance over two consecutive days searched for remains of the bodies found under the roofs of houses razed to the ground.

The Belgian court authorities have on the 25th of this month ruled on the expedited case of the Libian national Khaled Al Khweldi Al Hamedi and the Morrocan national Abdullatif Alshleeh against the NATO alliance , demanding expediting of court decision of original case presented to judge of 11 circle of Belgian court against NATO Alliance , court case, where the judge has accepted and agreed to investigate on the 17th of September 2011 . The case relates in content to all civilian victims who died due the air attack of NATO forces on civilian neighborhoods in Libya .

At the opening of the court session , it was established that the residing judge made clear his expertise . Before looking into the case at hand, the court refused the first request submitted which called for quick ruling on the original case submitted against NATO alliance and expediting the date of court decision, howeverthe court accepted and agreed to the second requestand announced its ruling of withdrawing diplomatic immunity from NATO alliance at their legal domain of the Belgian capital Brussels .

The presiding judge refused all excuses that the Belgian state submitted for voluntary intervention to avoid subjecting NATO to court order , this refusal did not onlyundermine the Belgian authorities defense strategy on behalf of NATO , it completely shattered them .

Worth mentioning here is the fact that representatives of NATO alliance were absent from all court sessions ,quotingthe residingJudge on this ; "all defense presented from the Belgian authorities interference in this case should be neglected ."Thus becoming an unprecedented case where NATO isunder legal and moralinvestigation never witnessed on an international level before .

Khweldi has accused NATO of killing his pregnant wife and his two children Khaleda and Khweldi, his neice Salam Mohamad Nouri, his aunt and a number of his relatives and neighbors, as for the Morrocan Al-Shleeh, his accusation includesintentional manslaughter in case of his daughter , which is in direct violation of The Security Council Decision number 1973 thatcalls for protection of civilians not killing them.

We were informed that Khweldi is in the process of establishing an International association for NATO victims and specially libyan victims of NATO military mistakes. The membership of this association will be open to any citizens of all countries that have suffered these atrocities or are still suffering the effects of these violations such as Pakistan , former Yugoslavia and Iraq.

It came to our knowledge that Khweldi is being subjected to great pressure for his position against NATO and insistence on going to court with his case , Khweldi insists on his objective of pursuing NATO legally for all the murders and military mistakes towards innocent civilians they have committed and trying to escape taking responsibility for, due to the diplomatic immunity shieldthey were protected by .
